Several representatives of the San Angelo City Council and dignitaries from around the state and from the national level attended a signage ceremony in Lubbock on Monday to commemorate an expansion to Interstate 27, a part of the Ports-to-Plains Corridor. San Angelo Mayor Brenda Gunter, former Mayor Alvin New, and Councilmembers Karen Smith and Lucy Gonzales attended the event alongside Sen. Ted Cruz, former U.S. Representative and Sen. Kent Hance, U.S. Rep. Jodey Arrington, Ports-to-Plains Alliance President Lauren Garduno and others. The celebration was hosted by the Texas Department of Transportation and the Ports-to-Plains Alliance. The ceremony “marked the official addition of 4.2 miles to the interstate system.” It said the mileage “extends I-27 along FM 1585 south of Lubbock.”
